Leadership & Confidence Class for Girls Let’s have our girls develop and maintain tremendous self-confidence! In 2018, we want our girls to know and understand their own capabilities in order for them to develop into confident, strong leaders!
The following activities and assignments are designed to create confidence: Public Speaking Skills: (i.e. posture, articulation, elimination of speech fillers) Conflict Resolution: (i.e. how to resolve a bullying situation, and how to help others) Philosophy of Self-Love: (i.e. learn why they are beautiful on the inside and outside) Leaders are intelligent: (i.e. lessons in vocabulary, grammar, and practical skills (without electronics))

Introduction to Public Speaking Do your children say “um,” “like,” “so,” or “you know” too often? Do they look into your eyes while they are speaking? Do they get nervous when they have to speak in front of an audience? How is their articulation? Are they speaking clearly, or do you sometimes have trouble understanding them?
During this introductory class, the students will be introduced to some of the most important skills that are needed while speaking in public. We will work on: eye contact, posture, projection, articulation, elimination of speech fillers, projection, and hand gestures. Additionally, the students will learn how to organize and construct a short speech to be delivered on the final day of class.

Advanced Course in Communication: Journalism, Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication, Conflict Resolution
Journalism - What is journalism? What are ethics in journalism? How does credibility apply when writing and delivering a journalistic piece? What is selective material, and what are the possible consequences of weighing too much emphasis on that material? What are some of the methods used to initiate contacts for interviews? Students will choose a topic to research, and will develop an oral presentation to be delivered on the final day of the course. *Interviews will be conducted throughout the course*
Intercultural Communication - What is prejudice? What is stereotyping? How does one avoid these issues? Knowledge is power! The ability to empathize is the key foundation to understanding and building strong relationships! Let's develop some ideas on how to live in a more peaceful environment together! *Documentaries and article-based discussions will be part of the learning process*
Conflict Resolution - Whether it is between friends and family, or during an extra-curricular activity, we all have experienced a dreaded conflicted situation. However, what does one do to resolve such conflict? During this course, we will discuss effective ways to positively resolve conflicts in order to maintain healthy relationships. *Role-playing and case studies will be part of the learning process*
