Originally from San Antonio, Texas, baritone and instrumentalist, Matthew Marinelli, recently graduated from Westminster Choir College with a Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance. While at college, Matt performed with the Westminster Choir as they toured throughout the US, Spain, and China both as a vocalist and a guitarist, and he can be heard singing bass in their Martin Mass for Double Choir album. He also spent his college years performing with Westminster's early music choir, Kantorei, as both a vocalist and mandolin player and in addition to that spent two years as the music director of Westminster's all men's a cappella group Soulfege. In addition to his time in choral ensembles, Matt also performed both professionally and as a student in several operas from the voice of a lead marionette to the lead role of Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro!
Outside of school, Matt can be found regularly singing and playing piano, guitar, and mandolin both at church and with friends, and is well versed in many genres, from classical - in which he received his piano and voice training - to genres like folk, bluegrass, country, blues, jazz, rock, and more!
Matt is from a family of artists and musicians and grew up loving music. Because of his background, Matt instills the same love and joy for music in his students first and that mastery of an instrument can only come second to that. Matt is a student-centered teacher and focuses on the needs of his students. He teaches students of all levels and ages. Matt creates well-rounded musicians and equips his students to read music, master scales, as well as developing their ears in order to express themselves through music. When it's all said and done, Matt gives his students a fun and safe environment in which they can express themselves creatively while learning a new skill. By doing this, he aims to develop not only happy and well-equipped musicians but happy and well-equipped people.
